Every decision in life revolves around this one choice. Do you want to jump the gun on things to bring temporary satisfaction that turns into permanent regret or do you want to make the temporary sacrifice that will lead to a lifetime of success?
You see when we get attached to temporary things, then we end up wondering why our happiness never lasts. The satisfaction of buying that house you can’t afford eventually gets drowned out by the insurmountable debt you’re trapped in for the rest of your life. On the other hand, the temporary sacrifice to get a house you can afford to be able to save and invest money in order to have a bright and successful future.
Temporary satisfaction in the present leads to sacrificing your future but temporary sacrifice in the present will lead to future success and satisfaction.
The apostle Paul, who knew all about making sacrifices, wrote this “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” (2 Corinthians 4:17 NIV) In other words, the temporary sacrifices made in the present will lead to an eternal satisfaction that will make all the sacrifice worth it.
So the next time you have to make a decision, think about if the temporary satisfaction is worth sacrificing your future success. Maybe you’ll begin to realize that the temporary sacrifices are worth making instead of the temporary satisfaction that feels good in the moment but will forfeit your future success.
