Recently I’ve been doing a lot of traveling and, as I was flying to California, I had this thought “What if life was like an airplane flight?” Let me explain. If you have ever flown anywhere, you will relate to what I’m about to say. As soon as you get on the plane, the flight attendant tells you over the speaker system your destination and tells you exactly how long it will take to get there. During the flight, the pilot will occasionally come on over the speaker system and announce beforehand that you are going to experience some turbulence up ahead. The seat belt light comes on whenever you are going to go through a rough patch. You are told exactly when to prepare for takeoff and landing. The flight attendant comes through the cabin every now and then to serve you and cater to your needs. And on some flights, there is a touch screen monitor in front of you where you can find out the details of the entire flight, a map of the distance you have traveled and how much longer you need to go, and the exact path that you are traveling on.
Don’t you wish life was like that? That you were told exactly what your destination is and how long that it is going to take you to get there. That you had someone give you a heads up whenever you were going to experience some turbulence in your life. That you had a touch screen monitor in front of you where you could see the exact details of your life.
Well, as you know, life is not exactly like an airplane flight. You might not have a pilot, but you do have God, the Holy Spirit, who is your guide. Just like the pilot has been to where the plane is going and knows the path necessary to take to get to the desired destination, the Holy Spirit has been where you are going and knows the necessary steps you need to take to get there. You might not have a touch screen monitor right in front of you giving you the details of your life, but you do have God’s Word, the Bible. And for you today, God’s Word is a touch screen that you have right in front of you if you’ve downloaded the Bible App on your phone or mobile device. And you might not have a flight attendant coming through the cabin occasionally to serve you, but you do have the Son of God, Jesus, who died for you and is now seated at the right hand of God interceding for you.
So life is like an airplane flight. You have your pilot, the Holy Spirit. You have your touch screen map, the Bible. And you have your flight attendant, Jesus. It’s up to you now. Do you want to fly through life on your own or do you want to use the tools that God has given you in order to get you to the desired destination He has purposed for you? Your decision will determine your destination.
