Overcome Day 7: Open Door
Read: Judges 3:15-30, Ephesians 5:15-16, Colossians 4:5-6, and 1 Corinthians 16:9
Mia Hamm, retired American soccer player, said “Good players create opportunities but great players seize them.” None of us have taken advantage of every opportunity that has been thrown our way. We have walked through some open doors and have missed others. Why is that? Why do we seem to miss out on the majority of our opportunities?
One reason I believe is fear. Fear cripples us from walking through the open doors available to us. Fear paralyzes us from fully taking advantage of our opportunities. Fear shows up in all shapes and sizes. It could be fear of the unknown. Fear of failure. Fear of man. Fear is no respecter of persons and it doesn’t play fair. Fortunately, there is hope. Paul writes to Timothy “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV) We no longer have to be dominated by fear because what’s inside of us is greater than anything that we face around us. Don’t allow fear to cripple you from the opportunities that God has placed in front of you. Walk through the open doors in the power of the spirit that God has placed inside of you.
Another reason is opposition. Paul writes “A great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.” (1 Corinthians 16:9 NIV) Before your biggest breakthrough will come your biggest bout. Before your greatest opportunity will come your greatest opposition. Before a woman gives birth to the most precious thing in her life, she must first push past the most intense pain in her life. The woman has a choice to make: she can either continue to cry about the pain or she can push through the pain. You have the same choice: you can either continue to cry about the opposition you’re facing or you can push through it in order to experience your breakthrough. You can either cry about it or do something about it. The choice is up to you. What are you going to do?
What areas of your life are being crippled by fear? Where are you experiencing opposition? Are you going to cry about it or push through it?
