Resistance Bands

I’m going to make a statement, and you may agree or disagree, but my hope is that after this post you will have a greater perspective about why you face resistance in your life.

Your greatest opposition always comes before your greatest opportunity.

Paul wrote: “For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” (1 Corinthians 16:9 NKJV) Whenever you are facing opposition it is a sign that you are about to enter into something great that God has in store for you. The children of Israel had to cross over the Jordan River before they could enter into the Promise Land. David had to face Goliath and run for his life from Saul before he became king. Even Jesus had to go to the cross and the grave before He was exalted over every other name.

During my time playing baseball in college, my strength and conditioning coach put me through a workout called vipers. This workout entirely revolved around the use of resistance bands. It was one of the most difficult workouts I have ever done and afterwards I could barely walk. But the reason why I put myself through a workout like that was because the results were that I became a better baseball player. Because of the resistance I was able to run faster and became stronger than ever before. Because I saw a purpose and necessity to the resistance, I was able to make it through the workout.

Without resistance in your life, you wouldn’t be able to grow in your walk with Christ. Apostle Ron Carpenter, Senior Pastor of Redemption World Outreach Center, wrote a book called “The Necessity of an Enemy” that is an excellent resource on this topic. I highly recommend that you read it if you would like some further perspective on why we face opposition.

So if you find yourself facing resistance in your life, don’t give up, keep pushing through because in the end you will become stronger and grow to a new level in Christ. If opposition has arose in your life, know that a great opportunity lies ahead of you. Keep your hand to the plow and see yourself soar to new heights.
