This post will be short and sweet but I believe it will also be very powerful and helpful for you.
I played baseball growing up, and now since my playing days are over, I have gotten into coaching. When I was playing and since I’ve been a coach the last 3 years, every player was and still is required to wear a helmet while batting and running the bases for protective purposes. No instance has there ever been a time where a batter got up to the plate without a helmet or after he reached base took his helmet off.
Paul writes in Ephesians “and take the helmet of salvation,” (Ephesians 6:17a ESV) In other words, Paul is telling us that salvation is not just a one time thing. Just like the batter doesn’t take off his helmet after he has done his job to get on base, we shouldn’t take off our helmet after we are saved. Never for one second take off the helmet, your salvation, or else the enemy may get into your mind. Once he takes out your head, he can take out the rest of your body. If you can renew your mind and protect your head, the rest of your body will follow.
So put on the helmet of salvation and keep it on!
