In The End

I heard a good friend of mine; Tavner Smith, student pastor at Redemption World Outreach Center and founder of Unite Greenville; say “The greatest failure in life is to be successful at something that doesn’t even matter.”

So many times in our lives we get caught up in chasing after, pursuing, and striving for what the world says that really matters. We chase after the nice house, the fancy cars, the fame, the fortune, the platform, the title, the career, the perfect man, the hottest woman. We buy into the lies of the enemy that tells us that our lives will be miserable, won’t be successful, and we won’t be satisfied unless we have all of these things. But ask anyone who has worked all their life to attain all these things, once they finally got them, they’ll tell you that they’re still not satisfied, they’re still not successful, and their life is still miserable. The great philosophers, Linkin Park, said it this way in their song “In The End,”

“I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter”

Why is it like this. Well Jesus put it this way “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21 ESV) Jesus later on in the same chapter goes on to say “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 ESV)

The only thing that truly matters in life is Jesus. So quit striving after what the world says is important, quit buying into the lies of the enemy; and start seeking, striving, and pursuing after Jesus. Because if you do that, you will truly be satisfied.
