Going Up?

If you have ever been on an elevator, you know that you can either go up or go down. The worst and scariest part of the elevator is if it breaks or shuts down and you are stuck right in the middle. You are neither going up or going down. You are just stuck in the same place, not knowing what’s going on, whether you will ever move again, and you are hopelessly out of control.

The elevator demonstrates to us the three different types of people in the world today. Whether you are involved in ministry, running your own business, in education, or out in the cooperate world; you will come in contact with these three specific groups of people. There is people that make things happen, there is people that watch things happen, and there is people that wonder what just happened.

The people that make things happen are the ones that make the elevator go up. These people are always optimistic. They always see the glass as half full. They are always positive. They are encouragers. They lift others up. They will do whatever it takes to take your ministry, company, or business to the next level. They are bought in 100%. They are with you heart and soul.

The people that watch things happen are the ones that make the elevator go down. The are always pessimistic. The glass is always half empty to them. They are always negative. They not only bring themselves down, but they drag others down with them. They always point out the wrong in every situation. They never find the solution, but always seem to cause more problems.

The last group of people are the ones that wonder what just happened. These are the ones that are on the elevator when it gets stuck somewhere in between going up or down. Jesus described these people like this “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:14-16 NKJV) These people are satisfied with where they are at, never going the extra mile, alway settling for mediocrity, and never striving for excellence. They are neither hot nor cold, they don’t make the elevator go up or down, they are always stuck in the mundane. Just like when you get stuck on the elevator you panic, get scared, get nervous, and start to freak out; this is a scary place to find yourself in.

So which person are you? Which group of people do you find yourself in? Do you make things happen, do you watch things happen, or do you wonder what just happened? Do you make the elevator go up, do you make it go down, or is the elevator you’re on stuck? Start striving for excellence and take yourself to the next level.
