Favor Saver

Recently I have heard a number of messages on favor. Specifically the favor of God.

What is the favor of God? What does it look like? How do you know you are walking in it? Those are probably some of the questions you have been or are asking yourself.

Our society and culture, I believe, has given us a false perception of favor. We believe that if everything is working out for you and your life is all peaches and cream, you must be walking in the favor of God. We think that if we do steps A, B, and C, you will find favor with God. We believe that the favor of God can be earned or obtained.

Solomon writes that love and faithfulness bring favor. (See Proverbs 3:1-4) Not a ten step program. Not a certain number of prayers. Not because you have done a few good deeds.

When we look in scripture, we see that favor has nothing to do with age. Noah found favor when he was 600 years old (See Genesis 6:8), yet Jesus and Samuel both grew in favor when they were 12. (See Luke 2:52 and 1 Samuel 2:26). Favor has nothing to do with the condition, circumstance, or situation you’re in. Joseph found favor while he was in prison (See Genesis 39:20-21) and while he was in the palace. (See Genesis 41:37-40) God’s favor has nothing to do with gender. David enjoyed God’s favor (See Acts 7:46) and Mary also found favor with God. (See Luke 1:30)

So whether you’re young or whether you’re old, whether you’re male or whether you’re female, whether you’re going through a storm in your life or whether you’re enjoying peace and prosperity; the favor of God can and will find you just where you are.
