According To

A lot of times we read certain verses in the Bible and we tend to misinterpret, take out of context or only use part of the verse by itself. Instead of standing on the truth of God’s Word, we buy into the lie of the enemy and are conditioned by what culture tells us we are. We leave out the key phrase “according to” and believe according to the world’s viewpoint and not according to what the Bible says. Here are a few of those scriptures.

Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. (Genesis 1:26 NKJV)

We were made according to the likeness of God. When God made us, He looked in the mirror. But we tend to believe and act like we were made according to Darwin or according to the Big Bang. We are all told and believe image is everything. We work so hard on improving our image, forgetting that we are made in the image of God and we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are taught it in school, we see it on TV, we read about it in the newspaper or magazine, and we listen to it on the radio. We all know the song lyric “you and me girl are nothing but mammals so let’s do it like they do it on the discovery channel.” That is a lie straight from the pit of Hell. The truth is you’re a child of the King, you were bought with a price, you are not your own, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, you’re loved, you’re chosen, you were made on purpose, with a purpose, for a purpose, you were made in the image of God.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28 NKJV)

This verse might be the most misquoted and misinterpreted verse in the whole entire Bible. We take the first part of the verse “all things work together for good” and we stop there. We forget the rest of the verse and especially the “according to” part. We want God to make everything work out according to our will and not His. Instead of telling God what is your will and how does my life fit into it, we pray that God will make everything work out like we want it to work out. Even Jesus wrestled with this in the garden when He prayed for God to “take this cup away from me.” But we have to come to the point that Jesus came to and say “not my will but Your will be done.” When we get there, then and only then, will we see everything work together for our good.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19 NKJV)

I wrote about this verse in a post called “Supply and Demand” check it out here
God impressed this verse upon me when I was thinking about this post so I felt like I should revisit it. We read this verse and think God is going to supply everything we want, but it says God is going to supply all our needs. We read this verse and think God is going to give us what we want according to man’s wealth, but it says according to His riches in Christ. I’m so glad that God’s supply doesn’t have anything to do with man’s wealth because that just runs out and fades away. But my Bible tells me that my God has a cattle on a thousand hills and David wrote that he had never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread. God’s supply and riches far outweigh man’s wealth.

Then He touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith let it be to you. (Matthew 9:29 NKJV)

Many times we ask others to pray for what we are believing God for. We think that if they believe and pray for our breakthrough that it will happen. We believe that we will receive what we’re hoping for according to their faith. But Jesus said that it is according to our faith. I can’t speak to your mountain and have it move. You have to speak to it. There are things in your life that will only happen or will only move when you believe, pray, speak it, and have faith for it. No one else can do it for you, you must do it for yourself.

So you were made according to God’s likeness. Everything will work together according to God’s will. Your needs will be supplied according to God’s riches. And all this will be done to and for you according to your faith. Walk in that truth today.
