This post is a message to all pastors, church leaders, and church staff. I say this with all love, respect, and grace. God has placed this on my heart and I believe He has given me a mandate to share it with all of you. Like Peter said in Acts 5:29 that we must obey God rather than man. I must be obedient to Him. So here it goes.
We need to stop challenging our people and start equipping them. We are not called to give inspirational, motivational, and challenging messages each weekend in order that our congregation might be able to survive the rest of the week until the next time church rolls around. Instead of pushing them to invite people to church, we need to start equipping them with what they need so that they may be able to go out to their environment, their job, their school, their neighborhood and change, affect, infect, and infiltrate it for Christ and His Kingdom. If we never train them, equip them, disciple them, and prepare them for their task at hand and just keep challenging, pushing, urging, and telling them; how do we expect them to accomplish what God has called, sent, placed, and positioned them to fulfill.
What we are doing is giving them a gun without any bullets. We are wanting them to hit a home run but we aren’t giving them the bat. We’re giving a great halftime speech, but not relaying to them the plays. We’re giving them a nice car, but never handing them the keys. We are so worried about motivating and inspiring the masses that we fail at equipping the few. Jesus wasn’t worried about appealing to the crowds, He was focused on equipping the 12 in order that they might go out and change the world. We are so consumed with getting people from the outside inside our four walls that we never equip and send the people we have inside that they might be able to change what is happening outside. It’s not about getting people from the warehouses, the businesses, the schools, and the neighborhoods to church, but it’s about getting Kingdom minded people inside the warehouses, the businesses, the schools, and the neighborhoods.
So the time of giving motivational, inspirational, and challenging messages is over. Let’s start equipping and sending so that we can change the world.
