Soak Up The Sun

The other day as I was studying God dropped this profound statement on me: You can’t shine at night or in the darkness if you don’t absorb or take in light from the source during the day.

For example, the moon has no light of itself but all during the day it soaks up light from the sun in order that it might shine all through the night. Similar to the moon, we also have a sun, the Son, in whom we absorb light from in order that we might be able to shine in the darkness. If you’re not studying, meditating on, or hiding the Word in your heart, than you’re not going to be able to shine out in the darkness. Jesus tells us that He is the Light of the world and that, if we follow Him, we will also have the Light (See John 8:12). Paul tells us that Christ will show us the light (See Ephesians 5:14).

Another example is when God passed by Moses, Moses’ face shined so bright that he had to wear a vail over his face so that the people could look at him. Moses had such a close relationship with God that even when he came down from the mountain, left the presence of God, his face still glowed intensely. Just like Moses shined in front of the people, we are suppose to stand out, stick out, shine before the world. Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world (See Matthew 5:14-16). Paul writes that we are suppose to be bright lights to the world (See Philippians 2:15).

Paula White, Senior Pastor of Without Walls International Church, said “Don’t forget in darkness what God revealed to you in the light.” In other words, whatever it is that God makes known to you during the abundant seasons of your life, don’t forget them, because you’re going to need them to help get you through the dry seasons of life. A good practical way to remember what God says to you is to write it down in order that you might be able to go back and recall it. The prophet Habakkuk instructs us to write down the revelation (See Habakkuk 2:1-4). Just like Joseph stored up food for Egypt in time of plenty in order that they might be able to survive the time of famine, we need to store up the Light from Jesus during the day so that we might be able to last through the night.

So be the light of the world today, don’t forget what God has revealed to you, and soak up the Son.
