Positioning Yourself to Win

Whenever I would ask my Dad growing up why he would do something or why he was telling me to do something or whenever another parent asked my Dad why he allowed me to do something and why he didn’t allow me to do something, he would always tell me and them “I’m trying to put you in the best position to win.” I look back now and see that I am so blessed to have a father who loved me enough to do whatever it took to place me in the best position to win in my life. I am also so thankful that I have a Heavenly Father who gave up His own Son in order to put me in the best position to win (See John 3:16 and John 10:10).

In Luke 19:1-10, we see a story of a man named Zacchaes who put himself in position in order that Jesus would not pass him by. Because the crowd was so large and Zacchaes was short in stature, he climbed a tree so that he would be in the right position that Jesus would recognize and see him when passing by.

In order to achieve what you’re after in life, you have to position yourself. You have to put yourself in the right position or you will be lost in the crowd. If you want a promotion in your job, then you have to show up early, you have to go beyond the minimal requirements, you got to do more than you’re asked to do, you got to take some initiative. If you want to get out of debt, you have to create a budget, you have to save more and spend less, you have to start paying cash and quit charging everything. If you never put yourself in the best position to win, you will never achieve the goals, dreams, and wants in your life.

You have to quit making excuses, focus on getting in position, and quit looking at the obstacles that are holding you back. Zacchaes was too short, he couldn’t get through the crowd, he was an outcast, and people were criticizing him. But he didn’t let that hold him back. He knew what he wanted, where he wanted to be, and he got himself in position. Instead of getting lost in the crowd and having Jesus pass him by, he rose above it and placed himself in a position where he would not be overlooked.

Crazy people get God’s attention. Zacchaes climbed a tree, blind Bartimaeus wouldn’t shut up, the woman with the bleeding disorder pushed through the crowd, the four friends cut a hole in a roof. How bad do you want whatever it is? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to put yourself in the best position to win? Start placing yourself in the right position today!
