Our youth group, Fuse, at NewSpring Church this past week started a hashtag movement on Twitter named #movingmountains. Anyone can send out a tweet with that hashtag about something in their life they want prayer for and our leaders and students will see it on there and together we will pray for that specific mountain to be moved. It got me thinking about a few things.
Job 9:5 tells us that God moves mountains out of our way. We have all these songs, advertisements, and messages out there today that say we should climb our mountains. Why would we settle, be content, or be satisfied to climb over our mountains, obstacles, hindrances in life when we can have faith and trust in the God of the universe to move them out of our way in order that we might be able to walk right through? Some of us need to quit trying to do everything in life, struggling to climb mountains, when we can just give it over to God. Proverbs 3:5-6 says if we trust in God, try not to understand things on our own, and in all we do give God the glory, He will direct our paths and make them straight. Everytime you keep trying to climb your obstacles in life, you don’t gain any ground forward, you keep looking up at an insurmountable object, and take your eyes off of the goal that Paul mentions in Philippians 3:12-14.
Jesus told the disciples “if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” (See Matthew 17:20). God will move your mountain out of the way, but you have to tell it to move. Sometimes we’re praying for God to move our obstacles out of the way and we wonder why they haven’t budged, but we never told them to move. Other times we go to someone else like a pastor, leader, family member, or friend and we ask them to help or pray for us, but nothing seems to happen. I can’t speak to your mountain, you can’t speak to my mountain, in order for them to move we have to speak to our own mountains, obstacles, or hindrances in life.
Are you tired of climbing mountains? Do you have an insurmountable object staring you back in the face? Have you tried everything you know to do and it seems like nothing is happening? Speak to it, whatever it may be, and see what happens. I dare you. See if God doesn’t move it out of the way so that you can just walk right through over to the other side.
