Why am I here?

Most of you are probably like myself and wonder why am I here on this earth? What is my purpose in life? What am I going to do for the rest of the time I’m here? You and I are here for one purpose and one purpose alone and that is to please God. I heard Apostle Ron Carpenter say “You were never designed to please yourself, happiness comes when you put a smile on God’s face not yours.” So many times we are pursuing happiness in a job, relationship, others or our toys/things. But we always seem to never be truly satisfied. Always wanting the next best thing. Always looking for the next best career. Always looking for someone else to come along to satisfy us. Ephesians 1:4-5 tells us that God chose us before the foundation of the world according to the good pleasure of His will. As soon as we quit doing what we want and start doing what God wants, we find out why we are here. God does whatever He pleases (See Ps. 115:1-3), so if what you ask and want pleases God, He’ll do it. So how do we please God? Here are seven ways to do just that.

1) Renew your mind

Romans 12:1-2 says that we should not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds in order that we may prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. In other words, get rid of that stinking thinking cause if you don’t you won’t have any shot at pleasing God.

2) Have Faith

Without faith it is impossible to please God (See Hebrews 11:6). You got to have faith. If you doubt, there is no maybe you can still please God, it is impossible. My Pastor growing up always use to tell our congregation “Doubters are do-with-outers.”

3) Live by the Spirit

Romans 8:5-8 tells us that those who live according to the flesh can’t please God. You’ve got to put off the lusts of the flesh and set your mind on the Spirit in order to live according to the Spirit, therefore pleasing God.

4) Abide in Jesus and His Word

Jesus said in John 15:7  “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” You can’t put Jesus on the shelf and only run to Him in time of trouble, struggle or pain. You’ve got to constantly remain in Him. One of the ways you do this is by reading, studying and memorizing His Word ( The Bible). Jesus says further on in verse 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” Apart from Jesus there is no true happiness.

5) Seek first the kingdom of God

If you put God first in your life, seek to please Him, and pursue His righteousness, all your needs will be met (See Matthew 6:33). Jesus said not to worry about tomorrow, your wants, desires or needs but to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all those things will be added to you.

6) Delight in the Lord

Psalm 37:4 says that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart. In other words, if you find your happiness, pleasure, joy in pleasing God than He is going to give you whatever your heart so desires.

7) Ask in Jesus’ name

Jesus tells us if we ask anything in His name, He will do it (See John 14:12-14). Whatever you’re asking for make sure that it’s not your own motives and desires (in your name) but the will and desire of Jesus (in His name).

Why am I here? You are here for God’s pleasure.
